Rocky Mountain National Park
It's late and I am wiped out. Today was a long beautiful day. Rob and I got up early and went to get him coffee and us breakfast that we could eat in the car. . After we ate we headed to the Rocky Mountain National Park.
The flurries from last night apparently turned into a pretty heavy snow. Estes Park had some snow but the Park was covered in the higher elevations. It was breath taking and brought me to tears. I have seen real snow before in California so it wasn't "new" to me, but it really was so beautiful.
As beautiful it was in person it was tough to get the pictures that I really wanted. The sky was white or grey all day and the clouds were low and covered most of the peaks. I took a lot and there are a few that I like, I hope you enjoy them.
There were elk everywhere, even in town! They are huge and majestic animals. I have seen them in the Smokey's and on last years trip to the Badlands, but never so many of them in one place! I think the ones in the Smokey's are larger and redder, maybe because there are not as many of them.
We took every road that was open in the Park. Some twice. We saw 2 coyotes, many many elk, a pica, a couple of mountain bluebirds, magpie, robins, several other birds and no big horn sheep. I really thought that we would see some of the bighorns but not today. We even took a few drives outside of the main area of the park but still no sheep. We did see a few Mule deer and more elk as well as some beautiful scenery. I love taking the road less traveled, you never know what you will see.
I love our road trips! This is what is fun to me. I have the most fun when I am out exploring the wild. Luckily Rob loves it too. We had a blast today!
Tomorrow we head to Jackson WY and the Grand Tetons. It will be another early day so that is all for tonight. Thank you for checking out my blog, please come back to see me:)
